Self Portraits – Winning A Photo Critique Placement

Self portraits are something I utterly love. I love the work of Holly Rose Stones and Rosie Hardy. So I find myself always doing my own self portraits at my studio in Northampton to try ideas. Sometimes I venture out into the parklands around but often I tend not to share them unless you stalk me on my instagram (go on you know you want to).

Well recently I submitted one on a whim to The Photographer Academy photo critique. I have submitted work before but not that I can recall a self portrait so thought it would just be torn apart and largely over looked. Self portrait = self doubt it would seem.

Anyway suddenly one day I logged into my email to find not only was my image well received, I had also place in the top level of placements! I am buzzing! I mean its a small thing I am sure but I do love it.

The winning image!

The inspiration for this image was Woman In Black and a little of American Horror Story but quite a bit of strong influence from the gothica novels.

This image wasnt the only one I took. I also took a few others to play with the ideas so enjoy x

Those perhaps interested in how I shot these… I have an awful quality video to help you here:
