So I often get emails from people wanting advice on everything from camera recommendations to ‘how do I get rid of a zit in photoshop’. And then every now and then I get emails setting me a challenge. Paul emailed:

Hi Khandie,

I know you love your Nikon cameras and your film cameras (good girl!) but how are you with just your mobile? As in nothing but mobile phone camera and editing in camera. No extra apps allowed. Either outside or inside, you pick.

Regards

Paul

So that was the challenge. I have decided to do an outside shoot…as in when I am walking my dogs and see how well my mobile phone (or cell phone if you prefer) stands up to the elements.

For those curious I have a HTC One. I cant do iPhones, I have smashed, snapped and broken too many. This HTC has lasted so it wins hands down. The camera is a rather lowly 4 megapixel.

Let the challenge begin.

I ventured off on my dog walk just before dusk. So hello shadows and golden tones. I edited only in camera and simply ran them through Lightroom to add my watermark. Mobile phone photography is very popular with many photographers using it as an add on to their main camera. I have a love/hate relationship with it, but I guess it beats selfies.

Getting the camera to focus was difficult due to having to get the touch screen to get it to do so. The camera was ok in failing light and took ok images but I MISSED MY BIG CAMERA. Nice challenge though. Show me your images?
