This photo walk exists for a very simple reason:
I recently worked with a group of college photography students who were struggling with street photography, not because they weren’t talented, but because they hadn’t been given enough real-world, practical support outside the classroom.
Street photography is hard. It’s unpredictable, fast, and intimidating especially when you’re new. And I realised that what many beginners (and students) need isn’t another lecture or YouTube tutorial… it’s guided experience in the real world.
So I’m hosting a free, beginner-friendly photo walk for anyone with a camera or even just a phone who wants to learn by doing.
📍 Event Details
- When: 4pm
- Date: 8th Feb
- Duration: Approx. 1.5 hours
- Where: Meet outside Tesco Metro on Abington Street, by the seating
- Who: Beginner photographers, students, hobbyists
- Cost: Free (although I am partial to an oat decaf flat white ☕)
This is open to anyone on or off Facebook, and we will have some college students attending — so expect a supportive, learning-focused environment.
Who This Photo Walk Is For
This walk is ideal if you:
- Feel stuck or unsure when shooting in public
- Freeze up when people are around
- Don’t know what to photograph or why
- Are a student wanting confidence outside coursework
- Want honest guidance without pressure or judgement
You don’t need to be “good enough” — that’s literally the point.
What We’ll Focus On
During the walk, we’ll explore:
- How to approach street photography without fear
- Reading light, movement, and moments in everyday scenes
- Simple composition techniques that work in busy environments
- How to shoot ethically and respectfully in public spaces
- Why some photos work — and why others don’t (without shame)
This is about building confidence and awareness, not chasing Instagram shots or copying trends.
Why I’m Offering This for Free
As a photographer and educator, I see first-hand how often beginners, especially students are expected to just figure it out. That doesn’t help anyone.
I believe strongly in community-led education and giving people access to learning without financial barriers. This walk is my way of giving back, sharing real-world knowledge, and supporting photographers at the start of their journey.
Photography doesn’t need more gatekeeping. It needs more guidance.
What to Bring & What to Expect
- Comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing
- Any camera or camera phone
- Awareness that we’ll be walking around town
- An open mind and curiosity
If the weather is bad, I’ll cancel the walk and post updates on:

If street photography feels intimidating, overwhelming, or confusing: you’re not alone. This walk exists because I’ve seen that struggle up close, and I know how powerful it is to learn together in a supportive space.
Invite a friend. Bring a student. Or come on your own.
Everyone starts somewhere.
