/  Photography   /  Just Engaged? Why Choosing a Calm, Experienced Wedding Photographer Matters More Than Ever

If you’ve just got engaged over Christmas or New Year, first of all, congratulations.
That moment, whether it happened quietly at home or loudly surrounded by family, is something you’ll remember forever.

And once the congratulations slow down, reality kicks in.
Venues. Dates. Suppliers. Decisions.

One of the first (and one of the most important) decisions you’ll make is choosing your wedding photographer.

Why Experience Really Matters

In the last 12 months alone, I’ve photographed 36 weddings and elopements across the UK.
Not in one venue. Not in one style. Not one “type” of wedding.

I’ve photographed:

  • Elopements in the middle of Scotland
  • Weddings on the sand dunes of Cornwall
  • Ceremonies tucked away in Midlands forests
  • Tiny village churches
  • London registry offices
  • Canal-side celebrations
  • Intimate weddings in a local pub

Every wedding was different.
Every couple needed something different.
And every day mattered.

That range of experience means I don’t panic when things change — because they always do.

Why I Limit the Number of Weddings I Photograph

I intentionally photograph a set number of weddings each year.

Not because I’m unavailable but because I care.

Wedding photography requires presence. It requires calm. It requires the ability to read a room, anticipate moments, and react without stress.

Shooting back-to-back weddings every weekend doesn’t leave space for that.

I want to arrive at your wedding rested, focused, and genuinely excited, not running on caffeine and autopilot.
You deserve a photographer who is fully present. Certainly not one just ticking another date off a calendar.

A Style Built on Moments and Meaning

My approach to wedding photography is simple:
I capture the day as it feels.

That means:

  • The real moments between people
  • The atmosphere, laughter, nerves, and chaos
  • The quiet in-between moments you didn’t even notice happening

Alongside that, I blend in heritage-style portraiture,  the kind of images that deserve a place on your wall or mantlepiece, not just on Instagram.

Photos you’ll return to years from now and still feel something.

Whether You’re Planning Big or Keeping It Intimate

Newly engaged couples often worry they don’t “fit” a certain mould.

Big wedding. Small wedding. Elopement. Registry office. Pub. Forest. Destination.
It doesn’t matter.

What matters is that your wedding feels like you.

I’ve photographed celebrations with 150 guests and weddings with just a handful of witnesses.
Each one carried its own meaning — and I treat them all with the same level of care.

Booking Early Matters

If you’re newly engaged, now is the time to start conversations.

Because I limit the number of weddings I photograph each year, availability fills quickly — especially for spring and summer dates.

Booking early means:

  • You secure your date
  • You get time to build trust with your photographer
  • You can relax knowing a huge part of your day is handled

Let’s Talk

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who values:

  • Experience over hype
  • Calm over chaos
  • Real moments over forced poses

I’d love to hear about your plans.

Whether you’re marrying in a city, a forest, a pub, or somewhere completely unexpected — your story matters.

And I’d be honoured to document it.
